Abstract:

Good farriery and hoof care are crucial aspects of equine veterinary practice. Many lameness cases have foot problems, and many proximal musculoskeletal or performance issues are influenced by trimming and shoeing. Other cases that require the collaboration between the veterinarian and farrier include foot infections, foot penetrations and hoof injuries. The establishment, nurturing and maintenance of a good professional veterinarian-farrier relationship and a team approach is a key factor in the health and welfare of the horse and for client satisfaction. Such an approach is also extremely rewarding and educational.
