Abstract: Fowl plague is an acute, highly contagious, fatal virus disease of domestic fowl and turkeys caused by specific strains of the avian influenza virus. Some other avian species such as starlings, pheasants and cage birds are also susceptible. Outbreaks have been recognized in Australia, but not in New Zealand where it is a first schedule, notifiable disease.
