Abstract: Veterinarians face inherently high risks of exposure to zoonotic diseases because they are among the first people to work in close contact with animals infected with zoonotic pathogens. We also have a duty of care to adopt work practices that do not expose ourselves, our families, our staff or others in the community to avoidable risk of zoonotic disease. Further, in addition to an ethical duty, as employers we have a legal duty of care to provide a safe and healthy workplace.
