Abstract: Ethics underpins all veterinary professional activity. Veterinary ethics ranges from how a veterinarian or registered veterinary nurse assists a client in decision making, to protection of research animals and onto providing expert opinion on government policy. A veterinary professional’s ethical framework will influence their ability to uphold the nature of being a professional and the standards perceived by the public. Understanding ethics, law and professionalism, is a key skill as specified by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (UK), North American Veterinary Medical Education Consortium and European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education. The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) has incorporated teaching in veterinary ethics throughout all years of its curriculum ensuring the next generation of graduates are equipped with the principled skills needed to lead the future profession.
