Abstract: Veterinarians are in a difficult situation when faced with the question of whether or not to use compounded pharmaceuticals. Our medical colleagues use compounding pharmacies when their patients are allergic to a particular dye or other ingredient in a medication, or when very young or very old patients require a formulation of a particular medication that is otherwise not available. Veterinarians are often faced with a situation where the medication they require for a small bird or a large horse is not available commercially.
