Abstract: What is clinical governance and audit all about, and why is it important for the profession? We are all aware of the terms ‘clinical governance’ and ‘clinical audit’, but what do these ideas actually mean from an international profession's perspective? These processes, if correctly undertaken, affect evidence based veterinary medicine and then have a substantial knock on effect to informed consent. At their core, both governance and audit require us to detect our current practices, set targets to improve and aim to do so. This should always be done with animal welfare at its core, as improving our clinical and professional standard will result in the improvement of animal welfare and client experience.
