Abstract: The paper by EC Firth, CW Rogers, M Doube and NB Jopson published in the New Zealand Veterinary Journal 53, 101–112, 2005, entitled “Musculoskeletal responses of 2-year-old Thoroughbred horses to early training. 6. Bone parameters in the third metacarpal and third metatarsal bones”, contained an error in the caption of Figure 10 in which references to the treatment groups were transposed . The correct caption is: Figure 10. Thin-section contact radiographs (a, c) (bar=10 mm) and enlargements (b, d) (bar=1 mm) of the dorsal area of the third metacarpal bone of an untrained (a, b) and a trained (c, d) horse. The porosity is less in the trained horse and is accompanied by periosteal new bone formation.
