Abstract: To the veterinary practitioner, the challenge of managing a cat with renal failure is very real. The specific goals of therapy are to; eliminate or minimise the associated clinical signs, restore fluid, electrolyte and acid-base balances, minimise the accumulation of metabolic waste products, maintain adequate nutrition, and halt or at least minimise any further loss of renal function. Complicating these requirements is the anxiety of the cat`s owner and the difficulty in treating the cat.
