Abstract: We recently reported on the successful vaccination of piglets against Aujeszky`s disease using a second generation Aujeszky`s disease virus vaccine (ADVV). All piglets vaccinated at three and six weeks of age were protected following challenge with a virulent New Zealand isolate of ADV, whereas all non-vaccinates died. We now report a follow-up experiment using the same vaccine. A litter of eight newborn piglets were vaccinated at three days of age with 2x10⁷ TCID₅₀ of ADVV by intramuscular injection into the neck region. No ill effects were observed following vaccination. All vaccinated piglets had seroconverted one month after vaccination when tested for antibody to ADV by Elisa using paper discs.
