Abstract: In the December 1987 issue of this Journal an article “Some field observations on the antibody response to avian infectious bronchitis on Auckland layer farms” was published. Ms Glenne Findon, that author of the article, stated “The live attenuated New Zealand A Strain I.B. virus vaccine was delivered in aerosol spray randomly throughout the rearing shed.” The survey was carried out from March 1985 until February 1986. According to our information Poulvac was not available during this period as it had been withdrawn from sale in 1977/78 because of questions about its efficacy. If Ms Findon used Poulvac during the period of her survey she must have used vaccine at least seven years old and of questionable efficacy. The results of the survey would therefore be suspect.
