Abstract: This month the Animal Health Division (AHD) plans to open a voluntary scheme to accredit flocks and herds free from CAE. The scheme has been designed in consultation with the New Zealand Goat Council and the Council of the New Zealand Veterinary Association. While the actual accreditation testing is to be carried out by AHD staff, because of the credibility given to the scheme by the involvement of an impartial state veterinary service, all pre-accreditation and surveillance testing is to be done by practitioners. In addition, eradication of CAE from infected flocks will be the responsibility of the veterinary practitioners. The following leading article and the succeeding copy of the AHD document will be of interest and use to veterinarians within New Zealand and will also be of interest to the journal`s international readers. Other countries are presently wrestling with the problems of CAE control and accreditation.
