Abstract: At the instigation of the Animal Health Division, Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Department of Health has reviewed the need for veterinary surgeons and persons in charge of laboratories to continue to notify the medical officer of health of any animal found to be suffering from any of a specified list of diseases communicable to humans. Such notification is required in terms of Section 87A of the Health Act 1956. The chief purpose of notification is to allow the medical officer of health to give preventive health advice to individuals who may come into contact with an infected animal
