Abstract: Referring to the paper on strains of Newcastle Disease by Durham et al. (N.Z. vet. J. 28: 108-12), I would like to add some information. Earlier this year our laboratory in the German Federal Republic had the opportunity to screen 46 avian sera from 6 different New Zealand flocks for antibodies to a number of viral antigens. One flock without a history of previous disease had haemagglutination inhibiting (HI) antibodies to Newcastle Disease (ND), with an HI-index ranging between 2-3 and 2-8 (mean 2-6).
