Abstract: Following the isolation of Aujeszky`s disease virus in New Zealand in 1975 a survey of neutralising antibodies to the virus was carried out on sera obtained at freezing works from culled breeding stock and from breeding sows on farms. A total of 8552 wera were tested during the survey: 2.5% of sera of breeding sows representing 4.9% of properties contained antibodies to the virus. Reactor rate among culled breeding stock was 0.3% of all sera tested. Farms on which serological evidence of Aujeszky`s disease was found were confined to the southern half of the North Island.
