Abstract: For some time, the existence of ovine strains of benzimidazole (BZ) anthelmintic-resistant nematodes in New Zealand has been postulated but not proved since, until recently, small quantitative changes in levels of resistance of parasites to anthelmintics could only be determined through slaughter-trials involving large numbers of animals. Now, three in vitro techniques that do not involve slaughter-trials have been developed for detecting BZ resistance in nematodes. Utilising one of these techniques, a field survey of 52 farms in 6 areas of New Zealand was conducted in March/April of 1979
