Abstract: In January, 1979, two 16-week-old greyhounds were introduced to a breeding kennel near Christchurch. They became ill 3 days later. Six days after their introduction, a litter of ten 3-month-old greyhound pups became ill. Clinical signs were depression, vomiting, foetid diarrhoea, dehydration and intermittent pyrexia (up to 43°C). Four pups required intensive fluid therapy. One died and one was destroyed in extremis. The others recovered rapidly once their appetite returned. At autopsy, the intestinal serosa was flushed, and the mucosa was generally reddened and necrotic in some areas
