Abstract: The labelling with the term “alchemy” in a recent Veterinary Record of the group of biochemical tests known as a “metabolic profile” should not be allowed to discredit all biochemical tests aimed at monitoring herd healih. This paper will mention some which already have value in disease control and others will undoubtedly emerge.
