Abstract: We have just received a copy of the N.Z. Veterinary Journal for August, 1975 (Vol. 23, No. 8) containing a most interesting communication by Pearce and Smith on the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of swine dysentery. We were surprised to find that no reference had been made to the highly successful use of dimetridazole (“Emtryl”; May and Baker) in the control and treatment of this disease. Certainly this product cannot be counted among those agents which the authors dismiss on the grounds of “toxicity, microbial resistance and unpalatability”…
