Abstract: At a recent meeting of the Northland Branch of the New Zealand Veterinary Association, two members, G. W. Powell and J. S. Hellstom, gave addresses on a recent visit to India, sponsored by the New Zealand Government. During their visit a particular effort was made to trace a group of dairy heifers that had been sent to India from New Zealand early in 1974. One group was encountered. They were informed that almost 100% of these animals had aborted. Most of the aborted calves, possibly emphysemsatous, were described as “bulldogs” and a widely held view amongst some lndian scientists they met was that New Zealand had sent genetically faulty stock.
