Abstract: Caesarian section of ewes is used quite frequently for the relief of pregnancy toxaemia and dystocia. There appears to be no controlled trial designed to find the prognosis for subsequent breeding after this operation. In 1971 we conducted a number of hysterotomies for the production of minimal disease lambs, and the opportunity was taken to breed these ewes in 1972 together with other ewes from the same flock that had not had the operation. The sheep were New Zealand Romney ewes in their second pregnancy in 1971. All the ewes in both groups produced at least one lamb that year
