Abstract: Forbes (1972), in discussing aspects of the pharmacology of pyrantel in the dog, suggests the danger of administration of drugs exhibiting a nicotinic effect in conjunction with cholinergic drugs and substances with anticholinergic properties such as organophosphorus compounds. Experimentally in the horse, studies on the effects of cholinesterase levels of multiple therapeutic dosages of pyrantel tartrate and pyrantel pamoate administered by stomach tube have shown no effects. Pre-treatment and post-treatment serum cholinesterase following the administrations of 37.5 mg/kg (3 times the proposed therapeutic dose) are given below
