Abstract: Under Australian conditions, Corynebacterium equi infection in foals tends to be a chronic pneumonia, progressive in its course, accompanied by profound wasting, high total white cell counts, visceral abscess formation with no temperature rise. C. equi infection has appeared on one thoroughbred stud in the South Auckland area. One foal had an indolent ulcer on the lateral aspect of a hind pastern and, at a later date, an inguinal lymph node abscess developed. Two other foals developed inguinal lymph node abscesses and another an abscess in the axilla. All lymph node abscesses were very swollen, firm and painful to touch, and deep puncture was necessary to establish the presence of pus. Temperatures were normal…
