Abstract: This condition is very prevalent in the Waikato Region at least, and probably throughout the North Island of New Zealand. Although it seldom causes severe disease and only rarely have deaths been recorded, it is probably responsible for a considerable amount of chronic disease, unthriftiness and lowered production in dairy herds. The increasing use of a vaccine against infectious bovine rhinotracheitis may have altered the clinical manifestations of the condition considerably and the acute infectious type of catarrh is now seen rather infrequently, whereas chronic nasal catarrh is still very widespread.
