Abstract:

The use of cannabidiol (CBD) in dogs is increasing, especially as in many countries the use of CBD is not tightly regulated. In Australia, the discretion to use CBD is a veterinary one, and thus relies on veterinary practitioners having access to and understanding the current level of evidence for this drug.

For this first section on the use of CBD, we asked Dr Leon Warne (Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Pain Management; Clinical Director, The Vet Pharmacist; Founder & Director, Veterinary Anaesthesia & Pain Management Australia) to review the current literature surrounding the use of CBD for treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) in dogs. In our next edition, we will be reviewing the literature surrounding the use of CBD as an adjunctive treatment for epilepsy.
