Abstract:

A 33-kg, 8-year-old female entire Staffordshire bull terrier was presented for surgical assessment of a low-grade mast cell tumour involving the third and fourth digits on the dorsal aspect of the left pes. Treatment included partial foot amputation, along with the previously unreported technique of digit centralisation. Other than a suspected surgical site infection noted at 11 days postoperatively, and hyperextension of the pes noted up to one month post-operatively, no other minor or major complications were encountered. Follow-up assessment at 7 months post-operatively showed complete resolution of the hyperextension with no discomfort or evidence of lameness, and no evidence of local tumour recurrence. The patient was described as having an excellent quality of life, capable of normal levels of activity.
