Abstract: Clinical practice-based training is an applied, social and high impact element of the veterinary curriculum. Within this context, students are learning ‘on the job’ with clinical educators who are carrying out their professional duties whilst at the same time supporting learning. Successful clinical teachers are not only knowledgeable and clinically competent, but exhibit effective communication skills and an inspiring, supportive and inclusive studentcentred approach.1 To equip clinicians with role awareness and general teaching skills it would be ideal for all to have access to basic teacher training. However, delivering this training can be problematic as face-to-face workshops are challenging to organise and potentially costly when busy time-poor clinician educators2 are often geographically dispersed. Given these challenges, online self-directed learning can be a useful approach.
